The next phase comprises works to the sea wall, external steps, retaining walls and soil stabilisation. The soil stabilisation work will involve inserting circa 300 nails/rods from 4-12m into the cliff face, with plates, anchors and mesh. This work is to retain the slope in an area prone to land slides. The area covered will be circa 1,500m2. Photos show the demolition and the trucks (avoiding the high tides) taking the spoil along Nefyn beach. The National Mountain Bike Championships took place at Parkwood near Tong, Yorkshire. Oscar was gridded last, he has been concentrating on road racing rather than Mountain Biking this season and therefore has not got many ranking points, this fact prevented being seeded near the front. Notwithstanding, he rode well to come through the field to finish 8th. This is Oscar's first year as a junior and he will be able to try again next year. We completed about 5 stores together and Aldi eventually set up their procurement with a "one stop shop" in the Midlands served by their hub in Swindon. After building a new regional distribution centre in Cardiff 2016, Owen Associates were appointed their regional quantity surveyors. A region from Mid Wales to Land's End, and now have completed over 30 projects since 2017. Dan a passionate rugby player and cricketer travelled the world working as a QS. Australia and Central America to name a couple of countries - always keeping in touch. He's also has a new passion - riding and racing a bike. The photo was taken in round four of the National Points Series at Woodies Park near Fowey in Cornwall. This was Oscars first Mountain Bike Race of the season as he is concentrating more on the road this season. The course is the toughest in the UK with two big climbs each lap and technical descents strewn with lots of man made features including a challenging rock garden. Oscar was gridded at the back due to lack of ranking points through no racing, his game plan was to make time in the climbs in a controlled way as the heat and climbs took their toll on those who went out too hard. Oscar finished 12th, but was a little disappointed as he had to come into the pits to inflate a softening rear tyre. The pictures feature CC Abergavenny's Junior rider Oscar Davies, who takes the honours of the first rider to wear the new CC Abergavenny kit displaying Owen Associates as the new sponsors. The event was the National Trophy Round six ( final round) at Cyclopark Gravesend Kent. Oscar finally placed 12th in the Junior race after holding 10th for most of the event but a puncture on last lap lost him two places. The course was very technical with cambers that were made more difficult from the rain the night before the event. The course had some new permanent features including a flight of steps which are the longest in UK cyclocross racing. Oscars next race is the National Cyclocross Championships at Westmorland Showground in Cumbria, the race will be shown live at 10 am Sunday 22nd January 2023 on Eurosport Player, GCN and Discovery Plus. The opposing elevation of the building runs the High Street which was a principal route through South Wales, which lead to the foundation of the town on a ford of the River Thaw. The Cardiff office at Capital Tower was closed on the 16th March due to social distancing government guidelines. The following day by the close of business all of our construction sites closed down. Owen Associates staff were then remote working. After various planning meetings, Arc Bauen our Aldi Construction Managers and our Aldi package contractors have been able to formulate a strategy of working whilst all consideration given to the health and safety of the workforce and their families. The projects have slowed considerably but Food Stores being classed as one of the "essential services" needed to be continued if possible. Aldi Henbury, in Bristol, which is an existing store and was temporally closed due to the construction activities is now due to start trading this Tuesday 21st April 2020. It was 10 days away from handover when the site was shut down and to be handed over and trading 18 days late is a credit to Arc Bauen and their dedicated team. The project has been delayed by significant historical finds - an ancient wall under the proposed extension (see previous blogs), work has started with earnest and a planned completion before the summer 2020 is expected. The Pound are fundraising and below is an extract from their website page " The conversion of the derelict toilet in Llandaff has thrown up many challenges, including the discovery of a previously unknown medieval hall house beneath its foundations. However, one of the aims of the conversion is to provide an eco-friendly building with low running costs and near zero carbon footprint to facilitate activities and volunteering for older people. The capital build for The Pound is being funded by the Welsh Government, and Llandaff 50+ has launched two ways to contribute to the exciting eco project. It was an epic day of monsoon like rain and our soon to be Tour de France Champion lead by example. The previous owner of the Art Deco House we are quantity surveyors on was part of the Welsh Team that beat the All Blacks 66 years. The Rhondda-born winger was a member of the celebrated team which beat the All Blacks in 1953 as well as making 140 appearances for Cardiff RFC. The result 40-17 defeat by New Zealand. Fundraising is still ongoing for the charity. Llandaff 50+ is a registered charity to promote social inclusion among the over 50s in Llandaff by the provision of facilities for social interaction, recreation and opportunities for volunteering. The Pound - Cardiff Council has offered us a Community Asset Transfer of the old ‘loos’ next to the 13th century Bishop’s Castle at the top of the High Street. As the derelict loos stand in the old medieval cattle pound, they are calling the Centre ‘The Pound’. It will be a base for activities for older people, run by older people.
